Chrystle (she/her) loves the discovery of science, contributing to new knowledge, and mentoring others through the fun and challenging parts of science. As a first-generation college graduate, she completed a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Nevada, Reno. Her graduate research focused on Ca2+signaling dynamics during pollen development and heat stress responses, including Ca2+and ROS biosensors. Her structural biology journey started here at UCSC, using cryo-EM to uncover structural information about calcium-related proteins regulating translation. Now as an adviser, she has the exciting opportunity to pay it forward and focus on helping our next generation of budding scientists see and fulfill their potential, making their own life- or world changing discoveries.
