Amy Sánchez (she/her(s)/ella) was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California, in the homelands of the Tongva, Chumash, and Fernando Tataviam peoples. She attended the North Cascades Institute Graduate Residency Program through Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington University and graduated with an M.Ed. in Environmental Education. Amy has worked as an instructor, program coordinator, and mentor at various universities helping students develop a critical lens with regard to conceptualizations of and relationships to place and Land. Rooted in a transformative praxis, she has focused on supporting the cultivation of a sense of belonging in underrepresented students in STEM fields. As a first-generation student herself, she is excited to become a member of the First Year Science Excellence Team and work with students as they begin their academic careers. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and traveling with her dog, Foxy.
